The Academy offers Nursery programming for Infant, Toddler, Pre-Primary-aged students as well as a Primary program, for children ages three to six years old. Additionally, the Academy Elementary program educates children up to through eighth grade. These Montessori programs educate children through the use of activities that progress steadily from simple to complex. Learning is reinforced internally through comprehension and demonstrating mastery by teaching others.
Classrooms are grouped in three-year mixed-age cycles (with the exception of our Infant and Toddler programs). By collaborating with children of mixed age levels, children are encouraged to become mentors, thus reinforcing leadership skills.
All Academy teachers are Montessori trained and certified from well-established national and international Montessori programs. Teachers will work closely with your child, giving guidance when needed. Our staff is trained to observe the individual interests and needs of each child, demonstrate the correct use of classroom materials, and guide them into appropriate activities.
Continuing education for our teachers is encouraged and funded by the Friends of the Montessori Academy of Chicago. Staff complete paraprofessional courses at certified Montessori educational centers. All assistants are placed with a certified teacher.
