SUMMARY:Continued Parent Enrichment: Reading and Writing in the Primary Classroom
DESCRIPTION:Successful early literacy consists of development in listening\ncomprehension\, print knowledge\, environmental print\, alphabet\nknowledge\, phonemic awareness\, phonological short-term memory\,\nrapid naming\, visual memory\, and visual perceptual skills. These\nskills do not need to be taught separately from each other\, but\,\nrather\, integrated in oral language\, knowledge of print\, and alphabet\nknowledge. The Montessori approach encompasses it all. In the\nstages of early literacy\, children who are exposed to pre-reading and\nwriting are building a solid foundation for reading and writing during\ntheir Primary years. The Montessori Method prepares the child\, from\nlearning to read to reading to learn\, through indirect and direct\npreparations\, starting in the practical life and sensorial training.\nPrimary students learn to understand that sounds make words\nthrough exposure to phonics. Other materials follow\, which present\nthe intricacies of non-phonetic spelling and grammar. The Montessori\napproach provides a carefully thought-out program to facilitate this\nprocess. \nPlease join us as we reveal the unique steps of the process of\nreading the Montessori Way! RSVP to misssally@montessoriacademychicago.localhost.me.
