The literacy team at MAC will be implementing the Units of Study
Reading and Writing program for grades K-6. This new reading
program’s mission is geared toward making our students skillful and
avid readers and writers. We will share the components and process
of making a successful impact on our student’s literacy development.
The Units of Study program was developed by Teacher’s College
Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University. The Academy
has joined the thousands of schools that have implemented the
TCRWP’s Units of Study for Reading and Writing program for grades
K-6. We believe the approach to balance literacy developed by
the TCRWP are aligned with the process of reading and writing in
Montessori classrooms from primary through middle School. The
Units of Study program will not replace the Montessori Method of
teaching reading and writing. Instead, it will enhance our literacy
goals by ensuring our students are armed with strategies and skills
that will make them even more successful.
